Career

Ever since I was a child, I've always loved to draw and layout information. At school, I paid attention to the cleanliness and clarity of my class notes, playing with colors and different lettering. But, at the same time, I was good at science and technology subjects. I would have loved to study Fine Arts but ended up in Industrial Design, which somehow combined the technical and creative fields.

I started my professional career in 2000 in fields like graphic and web design, and shortly after, in 2003, I set up my own studio (Inklude) with some folks, where we developed both client and personal projects of graphic design, illustration, web development, and motion graphics. We made a name on the local design scene, participating in various exhibitions and conferences in events such as OFFF festival. During this time we tried to work and collaborate as much as possible on projects related to the cultural and artistic scene in the city.

After the studio closed down in 2011, I set myself as a freelancer, working mostly on web projects and evolving towards a frontend development profile while, unfortunately, dedicating less and less time to the design/creative side. I collaborated with local artistic projects, such as designers, VJs, DJs, and artists in fields like dance and theater. During all these years, I also taught web design and coding for a Master's Degree in Digital Creation at the Catholic University of Valencia, loving very much the experience of sharing my knowledge with the students.

In 2016, I started a job in the IT department of a large logistics company. At first, I was involved in the UI redesign and frontend development of a web application for the final customer, but eventually, I ended up managing a small team of developers, working with agile methodologies, and coordinating the tasks of the team while in direct contact with stakeholders and customers. I enjoyed diagramming and simplifying complex procedures and requirements in an appealing and visual way, but in my everyday work, something was missing: creativity and design. Nevertheless, as something that is inherent to me, I never left my interest in design and visual culture, trying to keep myself up to date with the latest visual trends and technologies.

In 2023, I shifted to a Visual Designer role, which gave me the opportunity to reconnect (partially) with the creative side of my work. I spent time learning and refreshing my skills in UI/UX design and dove deep into the world of Design Systems, starting POC projects to explore new tools and workflows. With a background in frontend development, I found myself especially fascinated by the growing possibilities of design-development integration—particularly within Figma's evolving ecosystem.

Throughout 2023 and into 2024, I conducted extensive research and gradually led the development of an in-house design system aimed at bridging the gap between design and code. Consisting of a headless Figma design system, a token-based design-to-code mapping, a coded component library for easy reuse across applications, and a full documentation site, this system is designed to streamline product development by promoting consistency, scalability, and easy theming across projects.

Over the past two years, I have committed to a personal, self-taught journey to reconnect with visual design. I outlined key areas to focus on—Graphic Design, Visual Systems, Creative Coding, and motion design—and started by completing the Graphic Design Specialization from CalArts on Coursera. Alongside this, I studied foundational books and online courses in typography and creativity, while closely observing and analyzing the work of designers and studios I admire. This mix of structured learning and self-driven curiosity helped me rediscover the joy of design and the richness of its principles.

A major turning point came with Flexible Visual Systems by Martin Lorenz, which introduced a systemic approach to design that mirrored the way I had been thinking as a developer. It connected naturally with my past experiments in Processing and creative coding, especially for VJ and live visuals. This led me to explore the idea of dynamic visual identities—where transformation and interaction play a central role in communication. Rune Madsen's Programming Design Systems course closed the loop, bridging graphic design and code in a way that felt like a perfect fit. This exploration continues to shape how I approach both design and technology—less as separate disciplines and more as two expressions of the same creative process.
